Contemporary Art for Collections and Interiors by Oleksandr Shapovalov
Oleksandr Shapovalov
I am a fine art photographer working with nature as a living, conscious presence rather than an object to be documented. My practice is based on an authorial photographic approach, where movement, layering, and time are brought together directly in the moment of creation. All works are formed in-camera during the act of photographing, allowing perception itself — not post-processing — to shape the final image.
My work is focused on a state of perception that exists before words and interpretation — a direct, intuitive way of seeing the world. Forms dissolve, details soften, and the image opens into a dreamlike, almost shamanic experience, close to a child’s first encounter with nature. This is a way of seeing in which meaning is felt rather than explained.
At the center of my work are trees. I perceive them as living beings carrying memory, silence, and an ancient presence. Through photography, I explore the invisible connection between humans and trees — a bond shaped by quiet attention, pre-verbal communication, and a sense of belonging that is both fragile and timeless. My aim is not to explain this connection, but to allow it to be experienced.
My practice is also a gentle reminder of the importance of caring for and preserving the natural world. In a time of increasing disconnection from nature, my work invites the viewer to slow down, look more deeply, and reconnect with nature as a source of life, resilience, and direct knowledge.
